Profile Information

Who are you? (Creative answers encouraged!)
I am a girl. I am an activist. I am involved and only important in the ways that I can help my sisters and brothers and gender queer family, otherwise of no importance. You will see me here and there. I support all GLBTIQQA people who are the left out and discriminated against, and when you look in the mirror and see the movement staring back, you will see what I see. Leigh
Activism & Interests?
Chair of Minnesota Gender Advocates
Upper Midwest Regional Director of the World Gender Coalition
Member of the Transgender Commission of the U of Minnesota
Social Coordinator of PinkEssence of Minnesota

Interested in ending discrimination and the paternalistic treatment of gendered people through the stigma of being considered mentally disordered by the Psychiatric and Psychological associations. Gender is a wholly natural expression in all its forms and mismatches are medical issues not mental disorders. Interested in equality for all. and insisting on our right to humanity.

ANTI PROP 8 PROTESTS

Anti-Prop 8 protests - by Leigh Smythe

Part of the National network of protest against Marriage Equality - Nov. 15, 2008

Today, on a chilly grey day in Minneapolis and St. Paul groups gathered to demand marriage equality. I was in St. Paul on the front steps of the state capitol, with between 80 and 100 people. We gathered to decry the sentiments of voter referendums in four states to take away the chance for all people to marry their loved one. We, also, spoke of the terribly narrow m… Continue

It's unimportant, hon. You words have proceeded you. Quite a bit of ego in what you say. I suspect that no one is really as important as you seem to think you are. But, what the hey. It's not my place to determine your relative worth. I'm just an advocate trying to make things better, nothing special. There are lots of us and eventually we'll carry the day regardless of HRC's constant subtrafuge and intrigue. From my perspective and activity we ARE doing for ourselves. At least some of us.
So, I guess that's why you joined HRC, to serve Satan directly and to condemn his minions? Strange strategy.

LOL, yes Frank just hates for the fun of it. Seriously, until people get their head out of their ass and actually deal with political reality and DO for themselves, then transgender people will continue to get what they get.

The votes were there for passage, but they weren't there to stop a parliamentary maneuver that killed the entire bill.

Who am I? I'm Marti Abernathey, owner of Transadvocate, the first Transgender Delegate from Indiana, and I could give a long list of what I've given to the transgender community, but what's it matter? I speak a truth... an ugly truth, that NCTE, or NGLTF is no more your friend than HRC. They've been working with HRC and Frank and continue to do so. I'd rather serve Satan, than serve one of his minions.
