I see. I had the impression that you had already been offered the job.

Patrick, that's all well and good, but typically (as in my case) there wasn't an offer before the SS check.

ENDA Bill Introduced... Last Week?

Today at 1pm today (6-24-09) Barney Frank is set to officially introduce the HR 2981, The Employment Non-Discrimination Act.
This week, Congressman Barney Frank will introduce the Employee Non-Discrimination Act. The legislation would extend federal employment laws, which currently prevent job discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, national origin, age, and disability, to also cover sexual orientation and gender identit

The Big Shitty Lie: Transgender Trouble and Toilets

On twitter yesterday, Kyle Pratt of Ruminations Blog posted this:
'Bathroom bill' foes rally in Mass.: http://digg.com/d1tt6Z?t More problems with "transgender" guys and restrooms.

Of which I responded with:
Can you name one person that's been a victim of a sex crime by transgender person in a bathroom? Lying to scare

No Match, No Job, No Surgery

Maybe it was my naiveté, but I always thought when I got my documentation changed, I transitioned, and was passable, that I'd be able to live the nice normal life I did before transition. It hasn't quite worked out that way. Recently I was interviewed a few times and offered a job... and then I got that dreaded call.
"Marti, we were doing our normal background check and we have a problem. We keep getting a rejection with your gender."

I had to tell my potential future em… Continue

My Dead Feminist Heart

Reading Nexy's blog, I found out about a post over at Feministing and the boycott that's being called by some in the transgender community. The title of the post is "Men in Women's Bathrooms, Is Your State Next?"

I don't believe the post itself was bad. The original post author, Miriam, asked in the last paragraph… Continue

Transsexuals Not Covered In Hate Crimes Bill

Back on Feburary 25, 2009 Kathy Padilla wrote a post over at Pam's House Blend titled "Hate Crimes & ENDA: Bad Bills Come and Bad Bills Go". When it came out I really thought it would be one of those explosive posts that rocked the community down to the bone. She said:
"The new definitions can generally be said to cover gender expression but not gender identity. Which in the real world would pre

I agree with Arianna. As a trans person and a card carrying member of HRC, how do you rectify the complicity of HRC with Barney in intentionally dropping trans people out of the ENDA last fall. And don't give me that song and dance about "not enough votes", when we know that is a lie to cover their collective butts. It has been a year since then and as HRC contributed to the Log Cabin Republicans and endorsed, not just supported, but endorsed anti-trans candidates in the north east. HRC was not good for us before Joe So, but is still engaged in seriously questionable activities that DO NOT support the GLBT movement. We have chased them around the country, protested all their dinners and no remorse has yet to be shown. Your commitment to trans issues and the HRC are just confusing. I agree with Arianna, "Who are you?" and what's your game, dearie? We are in this for our lives, to make them better. HRC, and apparently you, are in it for........?

I am President and Cofounder of the World Gender Coalition
Activism & Interests?
The world Gender Coalition stands for eqaulity, non judgemental health care, freedom from violence and the unequivical right toGender Identity for Trans and Intersex people. The HRC has promulgated mistrust through it's past and most recent actions which run counter to most of the above values, it is for that reason that the World Gender Coaliton must strongly voice it's objections regarding these actions by the HRC and join this boycott and collective condemnation.

Hi Marti
Welcome to Queer Today. I use to read you over at the Bilerco but gave up on that blog. Just didn't have the pop and too much blah in the way of what I need and too much of everything that seems to me a little too mainstream. Anyway welcome again. Check out our site Queers Without Borders sometime. You can get there by scrolling down to the lower left of Queer Today and clicking on. We are doing some interesting things. All my love to you and hope to read your work again. I think you and Rebecca were my #1 writers but got tired of wading through the other stuff.
