I saw a gay couple on the news tonight say they wanted to leave the country because their rights were taken away. I fear that our leading LGBT organizations are using language that confuses our community into thinking all of our rights have been lost. We need to be sure all of us are empowered enough to know that in California gay couples are afforded all of the state rights of marriage, and some of the best family/adoption laws in the country for LGBT/diverse headed family structures. To… Continue
On Tuesday 5/26, the California Supreme Court will rule on Proposition
8. Regardless of the verdict, we need to take a stand.
Join us, 7pm at Copley Square on the night of the Supreme Court ruling for a
rally to celebrate the overturning of this hateful anti-gay law or to protest
this blatant denial of civil rights.
If the verdict is against marriage equality - we will be holding a New Orleans style funeral procession to display that the courts have killed marriage equality but celebrate our c… Continue

THIS IS A RE-POSTING OF A PIECE I DID AT MY BLOG,STEVE TABAREZ: KEEPIN' IT REAL on Thursday, March 5, 2009. IT IS AS FOLLOWS: PROP 8 - A TIME TO REFLECT; ARE WE DOING OURSELVES JUSTICE?
BY STEVE TABAREZ: As most of our LGBTQ communities await the California Supreme Court's decision on Prop 8, LGBTQ news sites and blogs have been full of stories, and comments, and discussions about it. In the meantime, stories about the repeal of DOMA, and terribly hideous stories of hate-crimes and beatings have… Continue

Over the last few years, gay love has been on prominent display in front of America. It’s been a wild rollercoaster of highs, lows, joy, outrage, passion and disgust in this trip leading us from Brokeback to Saddleback. And now that we’re here at Saddleback, where the church’s Past… Continue
Hi Guys! I am angry to learn that Prop 8 was largely passed in Chico, California, because of the actions of three people: Richard Matson, a lawyer, and his brother, David Matson, an accountant. Both are Mormons and campaigned actively for passage of Prop 8. The third is Tom Husing, a bum who lives in Durham. He is unemployed, deserted from the military during Vietnam, is an alcoholic and drug abuser, and is outspoken about his hatred of gays. He may also have ties to white supremist groups. Peop… Continue

The protest at Cambridge City Hall on Sunday was a testament to the city's strong commitment to social justice and to the queer community. It was literally freezing out, yet dozens of people showed up to hear the mayor, city counselor, and four state representatives speak.
After the speaking program at city hall, we marched to Harvard Square, chanting the entire way.
Here are a couple of good news articles about the protest:
The Harv… Continue

Thousands of people protested on Saturday in front of Boston City Hall. The official count is between 5,000 and 10,000 people. That is the largest LGBT Queer related protest in the city of Boston since the 1970's. Old school activists were coming up to me, saying that they haven't seen anything like it in decades. More people turned out for Saturday's protest than showed up during our state's own fight for marriage equality.
As organizers, we made the decision to focus the protest on more than… Continue
Tomorrow we have the opportunity to organize huge, diverse protests nationwide in response to the passage of anti-gay measures including proposition 8. We hope you'll join us even if marriage is not your/our top priority. It is especially important to be at the table when we discuss what is “beyond Prop 8.”
At QueerToday, we all contribute to the blog posts, breaking news stories, and the organizing of direct action protests in our hometowns.
QueerToday.com is your community. You built it, but… Continue
A hundred people gathered in Cambridge, the first city to legally marry same-sex couples, to protest Proposition 8. Openly gay State Represenative Carl Sciortino addressed the crowd before they marched from Central Square to Harvard Square.

This week, my local Yahoo groups and Facebook networks have been buzzing with news about today's No on 8 protest at the Mormon Temple in Oakland. I decided to stay home. Here's why.
I understand that many of us (including me) are in mourning right now; something important was taken away from us. Some of the stages of mourning include grief, then anger, then action. That's why I thought that the progression from Wednesday's candlelight vigil at San Francisco City Hall, to Friday's take-to-the-st… Continue
Tonight I was joined by QueerToday blogavist Madame V and our friends Julie and Steve at what may have been the largest demonstration in California so far opposing the passing of California Prop 8 which promotes discrimination and makes gay marriage unconstitutional. Over 10,000 people gathered in Los Angeles' Sunset Junction - a diverse group of people of all races, ages and orientations - to march a 3 mile block that took us down Santa Monica Blvd, up Vermont and back down Sunset Blvd.… Continue

Election Day was bittersweet for LGBT Americans across the country. Barack Obama's victory filled me with hope, while the passage of anti-gay amendments in three states left me feeling dejected. California's vote to ban same-sex marriage is especially disturbing. Gay couples in that state have been able to marry since June. The equality ended on Election Day.
Thousands of people are taking to the streets to protest the discriminatory amendment. There was a candlelight vigil in San Francisco on… Continue

While I'm at work and not be able to be there today - another protest sprang up at 2:00 today outside the largest Mormon church in LA. While I don't agree with many that the Mormons are to blame for Prop 8 passing (I tend to blame the horribly planned campaign against 8) I do endorse the protest as the Mormon Church was the largest financial supporter of the YES on 8 campaign and was mainly responsible for those commercials which put fear into people by targeting their children.… Continue
