Anti-Women's Rights Amendment to Health Care Passes House

"November 7, 2009 — This evening, the House of Representatives voted to adopt the Stupak/Pitts amendment. Planned Parenthood condemns this unacceptable addition to the health care reform bill that, if enacted, would result in women losing health benefits they have today. Simply put, the Stupak/Pitts amendment will restrict women’s access to abortion coverage in the private health insurance market, undermining the ability of women to purchase private health plans that cover abortion, even if they… Continue

Priorities and Perspectives: QueerToday Statement on California's “2010/2012 Debate”

QueerToday was founded as a network of activists, involved in a variety of struggles, who shared a common goal: to promote a political perspective among queer activists that looks beyond queer issues alone. We support solidarity with other progressive movements and look forward to a future queer movement that sees beyond same-sex marriage and is built on the principles of justice for all. We acknowledge that there is an angry mobilization around same-sex marriage. However, we regret that there… Continue

Queer Jamaicans Do Not Support Boycott

"Because of the possible repercussions of increased homophobic violence against our already besieged community, we feel that a tourist boycott is not the most appropriate response at this time,” J-FLAG said in a statement. “In our battle to win hearts and minds, we do not wish to be perceived as taking food off the plate of those who are already impoverished. In fact, members of our own community could be disproportionately affected by a worsened economic situation brought about by a tourist ba… Continue

Day Without A Gay: Big Flop Duhhhh!

Today was Day Without A Gay, a poorly planned rehash of all the extraordinary impractical boycotts/days off work that have not been effective in decades. Some of us tried to tell them it would do... nothing... but no one listened. Perhaps the "West-Hollywood Couple" who organized this with the support of Join The Impact didn't realize that many queer people can't just call off work, don't get vacation days, are not in a union, don't work at all, are homeless, work for a queer organization or im… Continue
