Hi everyone
When the tsunami hit in 2004, the LGBT Community came together to host events, raise lots of money and show incredible compassion and support. I remember putting out one email and getting over a dozen responses in a few short hours. And from that, we were able to put together a huge event in less than two weeks. I hope that our Community can step up in a big way again.
Please do whatever you can and share this call to action with friends, family and lists.
On the night of May 2nd and into the morning of May 3rd a horrifying cyclone, the worst storm in living memory, struck the city of Yangon, Myanmar (Burma) and surrounding regions with winds up to 120 m.p.h.
The extent of the devastation was not fully evident until the evening of May 5th when the ruling military junta reported that the death toll from tropical cyclone "Nargis" had climbed to more than 22,500 people, with at least 10,000 killed in the township of Bogalay alone. Over 41,000 still remain missing.
A state of emergency has been declared for much of the country following the 10-hour storm that destroyed entire villages.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has stated that he was "deeply saddened by the loss of life and the destruction suffered by the people of Myanmar" and promised to marshal international aid and assistance.
Rainbow World Fund is asking for your help to deliver vital resources to the beleaguered survivors of this terrible tragedy. Your funds will be used to deliver food, purified water, medicine and emergency shelter materials. If you can help, please donate today: http://www.rainbowfund.org/donate
